Oxford

On Saturday, I joined the International Society on another weekend day trip - this time to Oxford. It took over three hours to get there and we were not exactly welcomed with warm sunny weather, but it soon became clear that the city was worth the trip.

After lunch at the Royal Hotel, we managed to find the Memorial Garden gate (thanks to Erin's navigational skills) to join the walking tour of the university. Felt kind of bad for the students having to put up with the masses of tourists wandering around their campuses but I figure they are used to it......

Above is Christ Church college (founded in 1525) one of 38 colleges at Oxford University. It has been the setting for stories such as Brideshead Revisited, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Golden Compass.

'Bridge of Sighs'. I really wanted to go down that road to the Turf Tavern, where Bob Hawke set a Guinness World Record for consuming a yard glass of ale in 11 seconds.

Above: this is where Bill Clinton lived during his time at Oxford.

A long, sleepy trip back to Manchester arriving in time for a 9pm downpour.
