Road Trip Day 4 - St Ives: Penzance and Land's End

Despite the threatening clouds, our morning walk around St Ives was still very beautiful. I can only imagine how busy the town is in summer.

Our first visit of the day was the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Hepworth was one of Britain's most important 20th Century artists and moved to Cornwall with the outbreak of war in 1939. 'Finding Trewyn Studio was a sort of magic,' wrote Hepworth. 'Here was a studio, a yard and garden where I could work in open air and space.'

We continued our culture kick at Tate St Ives which featured the impressive 'Indiscipline of Painting' exhibition. But it was hard not to be distracted by the brilliant building housing the works, not to mention the crashing waves just across the road!

Having seen the major sites around St Ives, we hopped back in the car to drive to Land's End - the extreme westerly point of the mainland of England.

Stopped for lunch on the way back to St Ives at Penzance - unfortunately no pirate sightings.
